    More on The Unions

The Marmot has an interesting post about the number of Unionised teachers in Korea that should give you some background on  this post from earlier in the week.

It seems 17-something % of teachers in The Republic are members of the KTU, of which most are in the south of the country and only 10000 or so members are in Seoul.

Just 7% of KTU teachers work in Gangnam. (Where I work).

By contrast the Korea Federation of Teacher's Association comprises 38.9% of Teachers in Korea.

The Dong-a also has some stats on the lesser unions:

As of April, Korea had 403769 elementary, middle and high school teachers, 156987 of whom belong to the federation and 69974 to the Teacher's Union

The Korea Liberal Teacher's Union had 2955 members (0.7%) and the Korean Union of Teaching and Educational Workers 399 (0.1%)

In total 57% of teachers in Korea belong to one union or another.

I'm not entirely sure those numbers gel with the Marmot's telling or whether the Dong-a has got it's wires crossed in the translation. Unions always have such similar sounding names don't they.
