Military Hacked

Hackers steal SKorean-US military secrets
SEOUL, South Korea – South Korea's military said Friday it was investigating a hacking attack that netted secret defense plans with the United States and may have been carried out by North Korea.
Oooops!
It seems someone with access to a military computer left a virus laden USB drive in a computer after taking the terminal off the military's intranet and accessing the open Internet.
Accusations of dumb ass aside, I'm pretty sure that this happens all the time in all sorts of IT contexts, it's just a worry that it happens to be this context.
Yet again it highlight's Korea's walled garden approach to The Tubes. What's the bet there is a dodgy Active X control involved somewhere here, not to mention an unpatched, bootleg copy of Windows XP running Internet Explorer 6.
I would bet my left testicle in fact that that is exactly the configuration of the computer involved.
Which is not to say only South Korea is at fault with the Waikato District Health Board in New Zealand being brought to it's knees for the exact same reasons.
Remember people update your software!

When I was at the English Town I was constantly having to clean people's usb drives for them because they didn't know how to press the scan button. The amount of usb worms here are ridiculous.
