Every Now and Again

I've lived in Korea a while, and I can tell you some stories about Korea's and Korean's misinterpretations of Western cuisine.

One favourite is the pickle and strawberry jam club sandwiches I once had in Anguk-dong. And I think we've all had a "close but no cigar" moment - Nachos with ketchup, Kiwi puree and whipped sweet cream standing in for Salsa, Guacamole and Sour Cream respectively!

Monday saw a new and interesting addition to the list:

That large white mass in the middle of this green salad, covered in olive oil and a vinaigrette? Is it sour cream? Cottage cheese? Mashed potato?

... Nope.

Vanilla Ice Cream!

Many years back, one of my first overseas business trips was in Copenhagen. Went to a restaurant, and was served a delicious steak with what looked like a scoop of ice cream on top! Turned out to be a HUGE scoop of butter! Heart attack on a plate, I say.
